THE Philippines copped two more bronze medals on Monday in the 20th Asian Games, but the wait for another gold in this campaign could finally end on Tuesday with three final events on tap.
Losses in the semifinals by the men’s regu sepak takraw team of Jason Huerte, Jom Lerry Rafael, Reynaldo Asilum Jr., and Ronsited Gabayeron against Malaysia, 2-1, and SIBOL against China in the Honor of Kings esports competition were the sources of medals in Day 9 of the Asiad.

But the day also saw Victoria Bossong ranking first in the women’s 800m heats, and the women’s double sepak takraw team of Jean Marie Sucalit, Abegail Sinogbuhan, and Nelly Jay Salon beating Laos, 2-0, in the semifinals, earning them a shot at the gold medal on Tuesday.
They will join defending Asian Games pole vault champion EJ Obiena as he will finally be in action in the push of Team Philippines to add to the two gold medals captured by gymnast Carlos Yulo last week.
The Philippines has dropped to 17th place in the medal tally with a 2-2-10 gold-silver-bronze hail.
Carlo Paalam is also certain that he will be part of the Philippines’ medal haul after his quarterfinal win on Monday when he beat Zhang Jiamao of China in the men’s 55kg division, assuring him of at least a bronze.
Nesthy Petecio, however, bowed out in the medal chase as the two-time Olympic medalist was defeated by Yang Chengyu of China in the women’s boxing 60kg division
China has earned 132 gold medals after Monday’s action, followed by Japan (41), South Korea (21), Uzbekistan (12), Kazakhstan (9), Thailand (9), Iran (8), North Korea (7), and Malaysia (6).
