AMAYA Paz-Cojuangco nabbed a silver medal in the Philippines’ best finish in Asian Games archery on Thursday.
The national team veteran lost to Nurisa Dian Ashrifah of Indonesia, 139-137, in the women’s compound individual final.
Nevertheless, Cojuangco took home the silver.

The 40-year-old advanced to the final in dramatic fashion, beating Jungyoon Park of Korea, 142-141. She also overcame second-seed Bita Asheghzadeh Oskouei of Iran, 146-135.
Philippine archery last won its one and only Asiad medal in 2014 in Incheon when Paul Marton Dela Cruz captured bronze in the men’s individual compound.

The silver was a pleasant surprise for Team Philippines since the archery team is under the radar.
Seeded 28th with a ranking score of 691, Paz-Cojuangco, a multiple Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, including the 2005 and 2007 edition in the individual events, defeated Wei Fangyao via tiebreak, 145-145, in the second round.
She then beat Le Pham Ngoc Anh of Vietnam, 146-143, in the next phase.
