NESTHY Petecio made short work of Jordan’s Mays Alreem Abukhadijah behind a RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) to clinch a quarterfinals berth in the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan.
The two-time Olympic medalist proved too much against her young 20-year-old opponent, as she scored two standing eighth-counts to take the win in her initial bout in the women’s 60kg class at the Nishio Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
The stoppage came at the 1:51 mark of the second round.
Petecio, 34, perfectly countered against her Jordanian opponent, often landing a left hook or a solid overhand to get all of the five judges’ nod in the opening, 10-9.

Her impressive win came just hours after fellow Olympic medalist Carlo Paalam also advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s 55kg class.
Junmilardo Ogayre is the other Filipino boxer who made it to the Final Eight in the men's 60 kg class.
A win each by the three boxers will already assure them of a podium finish.
"Good day for us as two Olympic medalists Carlo (Paalam) and Nesthy joined (Junmilardo) Ogayre to make it three boxers in the quarterfinals," Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines president Marcus Manalo said.
Ogayre will be the first to test the water early Sunday evening when he goes up against reigning Olympic and World gold medalist Abdumalik Khalov of Uzbekistan.
A pair of Chinese meanwhile, awaits both Paalam and Petecio.
Paalam faces Jiaomao Zhang, while Petecio takes on Chengyu Yang.
