JUNMILARDO Ogayre reached the quarterfinals of the 20th Asian Games on Friday following a dominant win over Khagendra Roka Magar of Nepal in the men’s 60kg class at the Nishio gymnasium.
Ogayre won by scores of 5-0 in their round-of-32 match.
He is the first Filipino boxer to advance in the quarterfinals after the early exit of Olympic medalist Aira Villegas, Rissa Pasuit, and Norlan Petecio.
But the 27-year-old Ogayre will have to go through the wringer to reach the medal round as he will be up against Olympic gold medal winner Abdumalik Khalokov of Uzbekistan in the next round.
The 26-year-old Abdumalik, the reigning Olympic champion at 60kg,, scored a 5-0 win over North Korean Tae Bom.
