JAKARTA—Meggie Ochoa lost in her quarterfinal match in the opening day of jiu-jitsu action on Friday in the 18th Asian Games at the Jakarta Convention Center.
The 28-year-old Ochoa bowed to Duong Thi Thanh Minh of Vietnam in the Newaza women’s -49kg to end her bid for a gold medal.
Ochoa was favored to produce a gold medal here after ruling last year’s Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan.
Ochoa, though, will fight for a bronze medal and it will be against compatriot Kaila Napolis, who lost in the semifinals to Jessa Khan of Cambodia.
Ochoa began her campaign with a win over Yasmeen Alkhatib of Jordan, before edging Siramol Deepudsa in the round-of-16.
