RIO Olympians Marestella Torres-Sunang and Jessie Khing Lacuna will stand at the forefront of the Filipino 72 athletes who will compete in the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Danang, Vietnam.
Torres-Sunang will compete in the women’s long jump while Lacuna is entered in the men’s 10km marathon swim following their campaign in the Rio De Janeiro Games last month.
The Philippines is seeking to duplicate, if not surpass, its three-gold, two-silver, seven-bronze performance in the 2014 Asian Beach Games.
The showcase begins on September 24.
“No commitment but we are there to compete and we will do our best,” said chef de mission Karen Caballero in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum.
Aside from swimming and athletics, the Philippines will also see action in beach volleyball, 3x3 basketball, sepak takraw, wrestling, jujitsu, kurash, pencak silat, muay, and beach rowing.
Bo Athletics will provide the official uniform of the delegation.
