WHETHER Global FC has maintained its fine form in the United Football League (UFL) or not will be known on Thursday when it resumes its championship bid against Green Archers United at the Emperador Stadium.
Making sure his players weren’t rusty from the Holy Week break, Global coach Leigh Manson recently conducted performance (speed, endurance, and agility) as well as body fat tests in training.
“For the majority of the squad, I was happy with the level they have kept,” the Scottish mentor said in a chat with Spin.ph on Wednesday. “The sharpness we are looking for is a little off, but that’s expected.”
“Mentally, we are good, and excited for the last eight games,” he added. “And if we keep the level we have all season, then we give ourselves a great chance to win the league.”
And the league-leaders begin their third-round campaign against the Archers at 7:30 p.m., seeking to put more distance from them and their closest pursuers.
Global currently has 38 points, two ahead of Kaya FC and Loyola Meralco, with a game on hand.
After settling for a scoreless draw in the first round, the Azkals-loaded Global walloped the Archers, 4-0, in the second round.
But Chieffy Caligdong was sidelined in their second meeting and the Archers skipper is expected to be present in the third round along with first-choice goalkeeper Patrick Deyto.
Earlier, the third-running Loyola Sparks try to regain solo second spot when they take on eighth-ranked Socceroo at 5:15 p.m.
