KAYA FC poured it in the second half offensively and recommitted to the defensive end of the pitch all-match long as it trampled Socceroo, 5-0, on Tuesday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium to jump to the top of the United Football League.
The perennial title contenders scored all but one of their goals after intermission and kept a clean sheet for the fifth time in six outings to gain the provisional lead in the 10-team Division 1 standings.
OJ Porteria registered a goal and an assist in just 20 minutes of play off the bench, while Aly Borromeo, Alfred Osei, Younoussee Yaogo, and Diego Barrera were on target as well for Kaya, which now has 15 points, the same as Loyola Meralco and Stallion FC, but ahead on goal difference.
Kaya also dealt Socceroo its fourth loss in five matches, second to last with just a point to show.
Coming off its first defeat of the tournament, a 2-1 decision at the hands of Ceres-La Salle, Kaya came out aggressive and unlocked the defense 21 minutes into the match when Osei found the back of the net.
It was not until the second half, though, that Kaya was fully rewarded as they leaned on a balanced attack, starting with a Yaogo conversion off Miguel Tanton in the 59th minute.
Just 10 minutes after entering the match, Porteria found the back of the net in the 80th, before the Azkals striker fed Barrera five minutes later.
Borromeo put the exclamation point with a rare goal three minutes into stoppage time.
