JAKARTA – Junna Tsukii beat Thailand’s Raksachart Paweena, 4-1, to claim a bronze medal in the 18th Asian Games karatedo competitions at the Jakarta Convention Center.
Tsukii hurdled the Thai karateka in the women’s -50kg kumite to take home the bronze, the first for the Philippine squad in this 18th Asiad.
The 27-year-old Fil-Japanese karateka lost in her round-of-16 match to Bakhriniso Babaeva of Uzbekistan, 2-1, to be relegated to the repechage.
Tsukii beat Hawraa Alajmi of United Arab Emirates, 4-2, before beating the Thailand karateka in the bronze medal bout.
