JAY Harold Gregorio has assured the Philippines of another podium finish in the Asian Beach Games in Danang, Vietnam even as Philip Delarmino settled for a bronze medal in muay.
Gregorio beat Ongar Baymuratov after his Uzbekistan foe retired before the start of the second round in their quarterfinal muay bout in the men’s middleweight division.
The walkover win secured Gregorio at least a bronze medal finish in the multisport event for the Philippines, which officially has one bronze courtesy of Philip Delarmino.
Delarmino lost to Korea’s Yoon Deok Jae via split decision in the semifinal of the men’s bantamweight class.
The Asian Beach Games formally unfurls on Saturday but the Philippines is one of five countries who already have a medal even before the opening rites are held.
In other events, Ma. Claire Adorna and Courtney Gray finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the women’s 5km event in marathon swimming.
