THE Philippine boxing team lost another medal hope on Thursday night as Norlan Petecio fell by the wayside in the round-of-32 of the men’s boxing competitions in the 20th Asian Games on Thursday night in Nagoya, Japan.
The younger brother of Olympic medalist Nesthy Petecio suffered a 5-0 loss to home bet Sewonrets Quincy Mensah Okazawa in the men’s 70kg class at the Nishio gymnasium.

The Japanese fighter won by scores of 30-27 in four of the judges, while the other one had it 30-26.
Petecio, 24, became the second casualty for the compact six-man boxing squad following the first-round upset suffered by Olympic bronze medalist Aira Villegas.
Left to carry the fight for the country which hasn’t won a boxing gold since Rey Saludar did it in the 2010 Guangzhou Asiad, are Olympic medal winners Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam, Rissa Pasuit, and Junmilardo Ogayre.
Pasuit is set to climb the ring on Friday, while Petecio and Paalam, two of the country’s brightest hopes in the sport, make their debuts on Saturday.
