FILIPINO weightlifters and wrestlers are being eyed to train in Iran by no less than Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Richie Garcia.
The PSC chief said the government sports agency recently inked a memorandum of agreement with his counterpart in Iran. Part of the deal is to allow Filipino athletes to train in the Western Asian country.
Garcia said he is targeting athletes from weightlifting and wrestling to go to Iran sometime in July or two months before the Asian Games set September 19-October 4 in Incheon, South Korea.
“They will be billeted together with the national athletes of Iran. I’m sure makakakuha tayo doon (ng experience) sa kanila,” said Garcia.
Garcia said the Iran sports body still has other offers including training for wushu athletes.
“We should take advantage of this,” Garcia added.
