GILAS Pilipinas Women lost to Japan, 89-67, on Tuesday at the close of their group stage campaign in the 20th Asian Games basketball at the Aichi International Arena.
Gilas Women suffered its first loss of the tournament at the hands of the reigning silver medalist in essentially a game with bearing only on the rankings as both squads have already qualified for the quarterfinals before the game.
The Philippines, who finished Group B with a 2-1 win-loss record, will play either Group A top-seed China, or fellow second placers Indonesia or Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals, depending on the results of the remaining group-stage matches.
Elizabeth Means topscored for the Philippines with 16 points and nine rebounds, and Afril Bernardino added 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
