GILAS Pilipinas Women’s 3x3 team followed in the footsteps of its men’s counterpart in the 20th Asian Games.
The Filipina cagebelles breezed through the semifinal of the half-court game by making short work of Singapore, 22-12, on Thursday night at the Kinjo Funto Station Square in Nagoya Japan.
Kennan Ka and Amyah Espanol each had seven points for the Philippine side in the quarterfinals match up, with Ka adding nine rebounds in her name.
The victory assured both the Philippine men and women’s 3x3 team of places in the semifinals of the quadrennial showpiece.
It was a tight game at the seven minute mark with the score tied at 7-7 when Ka instigated a 9-1 run by the Philippines to finally take command at 16-8.
Kacey Dela Rosa added six and Maria Pasilang two for Gilas women's which will face Southeast Asian rival Thailand in the semis on Friday.
The Thais edged out Iran in a thrilling quarterfinal match, 12-11.
The other semifinals feature South Korea versus Japan.
The South Koreans escaped past Chinese Taipei, 14-12, while the host country ousted China, 17-16.
