Filipino athletes set to vie for honors in Asian Indoor-Martial Arts Games

    Dec 29, 2012

ASIDE from the Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, Filipino athletes are also set to vie for honors in the Asian Indoor-Martial Arts Games in Korea next year.

Chief of mission Lucas Managuelod said the Philippines will see action in seven out of the 12 sports in the event set from June 29 to July 6.

The Philippines will vie in muay, swimming, bowling, chess, taekwondo, dancesports, and futsal.

However, only athletes from chess, taekwondo, and futsal will have a chance to use the Asian Indoor-Martial Arts Games as a build-up for the SEA Games as the other events are not part of this year’s calendar of events.

The event will be staged for the first time after the Asian Indoor Games and the Asian Martial Arts Games were merged by the Olympic Council of Asia.

The Philippines had already competed in both events in the past, winning a total of three gold medals in four editions of the Asian Indoor Games and one gold in the only Asian Martial Arts Games held in 2011.
