THE Filipinas were ousted by Japan, 4-0, on Friday night in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Games women’s football at the Shizuoka Stadium Ecopa.
The Nationals were eliminated again by Japan in the Asiad quarterfinals for the second consecutive time after they were beaten, 8-1, in Hangzhou, China.
The scoring came early for Japan with Saori Takarada putting her team on the board in the third minute.
Saori had a brace in the 36th after Mami Ueno scored Japan’s second goal in the 26th. China Kamiya two minutes into injury time before the halftime break.
The loss put an end to the Philippines’ stint in the Asian Games which is also being used as preparation for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Philippines started the Asiad with a 1-1 draw against Uzbekistan, followed by a 2-0 victory over Hong Kong in the group stage.
The Filipinas lost to China, 5-1, at the close of Group G arranging a quarterfinal duel with Japan, which has so far dominated the competition, scoring a total of 16 goals in the group stage.
