Elizabeth Means part of Gilas Women team in POC list for Asiad

Big boost for Gilas Women as they look to surpass their quarterfinals finish in the last Asian Games

ELIZABETH Means has been included in the Gilas Pilipinas Women squad in the 20th Asian Games, according to the list of athletes released by the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Gilas Women will have its naturalized player for the Asiad in Means, who got her Philippine passport through Republic Act 12319 last July.

Malick Diouf also got his Philippine passport with Means last July, becoming a Filipino through naturalization with Republic Act 12318.

Means has been playing in the 3x3 teams of the Philippines, and it will be the first time that she will be seeing action in 5-on-5.

Also part of the Gilas Pilipinas Women bound for the Asian Games based from the POC list are Jack Animam, Vanessa De Jesus, Afril Bernardino, Janine Pontejos, Stefani Berberabe, Kent Pastrana, Angel Surada, Monique Del Carmen, Camille Malagar, Jhazmin Joson, and Camille Clarin.

Gilas Women under new head coach BT Toews were coming off a campaign in the FIBA Women Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico where they won a single game against Senegal last August 21.

The Philippines is looking to duplicate or even surpass its quarterfinal finish in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Gilas Women is with host Japan, Kazakhstan, and Hong Kong in Group B. Their first game is against Kazakhstan on September 17 followed by Hong Kong on September 20, and Japan on September 22.
