    Divine Wally's bronze glitters like gold on quiet day for Team PH

    JAKARTA – The Philippines added another bronze medal to its tally on a relatively quiet day at the 2018 Asian Games after Divine Wally reached the semifinals in wushu.

    Already assured of a podium finish in Day Four of the competition, Wally, a 2015 world champion, lost to Elaheh Mansoryan Samiroumi of Iran, 2-1 and settled for a bronze in the sanda -52kg matching Agatha Wong' finish in the taolu event.

    At posting time, the Philippines occupied 16th spot in the medal tally with one gold and five bronzes after Wednesday’s action.

      Elsewhere, Samuel Morrison failed to reach the medal round in taekwondo after bowing out in the quarterfinal round of the men’s -80kg division with a 27-18 loss to Korea’s Lee Hwajun.

      Francis Agojo only got as far as the round-of-16 in the men’s -63kg class.

      In archery, Amaya Paz-Cojuangco tallied 698 to take seventh spot at the end of the compound women’s individual ranking round.

      Joseph Benjamin Vicencio placed 11th, Paul Marton dela Cruz 15th, and Earl Benjamin Yap 40th in the compound men’s individual ranking. The three combined for 2063 to take seventh spot in the compound team ranking.

      Jeffrey Garcia wound up fifth in the men’s 69kg Group B in weightlifting while Jeffrey Manatad lost to Ashkat Dilmukhamedov of Kazakhstan in the men’s Greco-Roman 77kg 1/8 final in wrestling.

      Daniel Parantac placed ninth, while Jones Llabres Inso got 15th place in men’s taijijian.

      In Palembang, the Philippine women’s bowling team of Liza del Rosario, Lara Posadas, and Marie Alexis Sy took seventh spot in the trios, while the team of Maria Lourdes Arles, Dyan Coronacion, and Rachelle Leon finished 10th.

      In shooting, Amparo Teresa Acuna placed 26th in the 50m rifle 3 positions women’s qualification.
