CERES-LA SALLE sealed its place in the top tier of the United Football League after capturing the Division 2 crown following a 5-1 hammering of Cimarron on Sunday night at the Emperador Stadium.
The Division 2 leaders built a sizeable cushion in the first half and never looked back against the division cellar-dwellers as they jacked their points total to 51 points after 20 matches.
That was enough for the reigning national club champions from Bacolod to earn promotion in their maiden campaign with two games to spare as second-running Manila Jeepney can only reach a maximum of 49 points.
With 46 points in 21 matches, Jeepney, though, is poised take the second spot for promotion, while Philippine Air Force (44 points in 21 matches) remains alive, although the Airmen need to win their last match and hope that Jeepney would lose theirs.
In case of a tie, Jeepney has the advantage after defeating the Airmen in their match.
Jin Ho Kim registered a brace, while Samson Olaniyi, Marwin Angeles, and Younousse Yaogo chipped in a goal apiece for Ceres, which established a four-goal lead in the first half.
Cimarron wound up stuck in the bottom with only four points to show in 20 matches.
