CERES-LA Salle seeks to book an early championship party as it takes on Socceroo on Saturday in the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The reigning Division 2 champions have put in the work early, winning all but two of their 14 matches to be on the verge of capturing the crown right in their maiden top flight campaign.
Now, Ceres, which is nine points clear of defending champion Global FC, has the luxury of needing just a draw in its last three outings.
And the pacesetting squad from Bacolod can seal its date with destiny against a cellar-dwelling Socceroo side that has lost all but two of its 15 matches for just four points.
“We’ll still work hard,” Ceres coach Ali Go said ahead of the skirmish that kicks off at 5:15 p.m. “We’ll treat everyone the same.”
But the title is Ceres’ to lose as it boasts a star-studded roster bannered by Spanish sensations Adrian Gallardo and Bienvenido Marañon as well as Azkals Manny Ott, Patrick Reichelt, Martin Steuble, and skipper Juani Guirado.
“I have twenty-five players capable of winning games, but that's the hard part for me because I have twenty-five good players and I can’t play them all,” Go said.
Global FC tries to keep whatever’s left of its title-retention bid as it takes on Green Archers United in the nightcap at 7:45 p.m.
A second-division match featuring Forza and Mendiola FC 1991 opens the triple-header at 2:45 p.m.
