JAKARTA – The Philippines continued to slide down in the medal tally in the 18th Asian Games as the country only won one bronze on Day Seven on Saturday here.
Daniel Caluag captured a bronze medal in the men’s BMX final on Saturday morning, the only medal of the day for the Philippines.
The Philippines is now in 23rd in the medal tally with one gold and seven bronze medals.
Elsewhere, Yuka Saso is in a tie for third place after three rounds in the women’s individual. Saso’s performance also gave the Philippines a chance in the team event as it is in third place heading into th final round.
Cherry Mae Regalado advance into the finals of the women’s singles in pencak silat. The final will be played on Monday.
The Philippine boxing team suffered another blow when Mario Fernandez suffered a third-round knockout against Al Sudani Jaafar Abdulridha Ali of Iran.
In ju-jitsu, Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games gold medalist Annie Ramirez and Apryl Eppinger failed to advance after the first round, while Carlos Pena made it until the round-of-16.
Teenage BMX rider Sienna Fines had a respectable eighth-place finish in the women’s BMX final.
OJ Delos Santos lost in his quarterfinal match in men’s kata in karate.
Kristel Macrohon finished eighth in the women’s weightlifting 69kg.
Joaquin Miguel Ancheta placed 26th in Day One of the skeet qualification in shooting being held in Palembang.
Also in Palembang, the men’s 200m canoe kayak squad took fifth spot in the medal round.
