JAKARTA – Rogen Ladon gave the Philippines a timely lift on a medal-less day for the contingent on Tuesday in the 18th Asian Games.

The 2016 Olympian beat Kazakhstan’s Azat Mahmetov by the skin of his teeth in the men’s flyweight quarterfinals, providing the highlight on a relatively quiet day for the Philippine delegation.

The Philippines is in 19th place in the medal standings with a 3-0-12 gold-silver-bronze tally, but is assured of another bronze as Ladon prepares for the semifinals where he will be facing Yutapong Tongdee of Thailand on Friday.

Meanwhile, Christian Standhardinger had 27 points and 13 rebounds as the Philippine men’s basketball team beat Japan, 113-80, to atone for its sorry loss to Korea in the quarterfinals.
