THE Filipinas will miss the services of Angie Beard in the 2026 Asian Games due to an injury.
Head coach Mark Torcaso said Beard suffered the injury during their Manila training camp for the Asiad.
“She is unfortunately one of the players that got injured last week. She will unfortunately have to withdraw over the next couple of days. We are just working through that replacement process at the moment,” said Torcaso before the Filipinas left for Aichi-Nagoya for the Asiad.
Torcaso, however, assured that Beard’s injury is a minor one and will likely be available in the October international window where they will play Peru.
“Unfortunately, she’s got a small injury and hopefully, she will be available for the Peru camp in a couple of weeks time. Nothing severe. It’s just a cautious plan for Angie to make sure she is okay,” said Torcaso.
The Brisbane Roar defender was part of the 2023 team that played in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. She scored a goal in the Philippines’ 2-0 win over Uzbekistan in a match for a place in the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
Torcaso said Beard is not the only one that will be replaced from the initial list of players that were included in the Filipinas roster.
“There will be a couple of players here that also have some unfortunate injuries and stuff. We have to replace some players from the original list that was published," Torcaso said.
"There will be a couple of changes that will be announced over the next couple of days, unfortunately. But that’s good because it gives someone else an opportunity to obviously represent the country and be available potentially for a World Cup down the track,” he added.
