ALAS Pilipinas Women stayed unbeaten in the Asian Games classification stage, sweeping Mongolia on Monday, 25-13, 25-11, 25-20, to book a spot in Tuesday’s final classification match.

The Nationals maintained their dominant form after opening the classification stage with a demolition of Qatar, putting Mongolia away in straight sets even as the latter received a first-round bye.
Alas’ three-headed attack blitzed Mongolia, with Angel Canino pacing the Philippines with 14 points, followed by the former National U pairing of Alyssa Solomon and Bella Belen with 11 and 10, respectively.
Thea Gagate also posted her best outing of the tournament with six points built on three aces, two attacks and a block.
Mongolia showed its stiffest resistance in the third set, keeping the score much closer after Alas controlled the opening two frames. But Solomon and Shaina Nitura teamed up for the finishing kills in the endgame to put the match away.
Last test for Alas
Hong Kong awaits in Tuesday’s ninth-place match after going 1-2 in the group stage, losing to South Korea and Vietnam before beating Qatar, then sweeping Nepal in its first classification-stage assignment.
Alas was sent to the classification round after losses to China and Kazakhstan ended its medal hopes in Pool B. The Nationals have since swept Qatar and Mongolia to earn their place in the ninth-place battle.
The Philippines now needs one more win over Hong Kong to finish ninth in the 14-team field.
