ALAS Pilipinas Beach has two shots at the Asian Games women's beach volleyball semifinals after both Philippine pairs advanced to the Final Eight in Aichi-Nagoya.
Sisi Rondina and Bernadeth Pons booked their quarterfinal berth with a dominant 21-17, 21-15 sweep of Japan’s Sakura Ito and Mayu Sawame.

The veteran pair will next face the same Thai duo of Worapeerachayakorn Kongphopsarutawadee and Taravadee Naraphornrapat, whom they beat for gold at the 33rd SEA Games last December, this time with a spot in the Asiad semifinals at stake.

Sofiah Pagara and Khy Progella, meanwhile, remained unbeaten after edging Hong Kong’s Wong Man Ching and Ngok Ling Tsang, 26-24, 21-18.
Their reward is a quarterfinal clash with Japan’s sister tandem of Non Matsumoto and Ren Matsumoto.
The two Philippine pairs are on opposite sides of the quarterfinal draw and could meet in the semifinals, meaning only one can advance to the gold-medal match if both survive their respective assignments.
