ADAMSON head coach Air Padda wishes all the best for her former player Mylene Paat in her precious stint with the women’s national volleyball team in the ongoing 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.

Before the Lady Falcons edged San Beda Red Spikers with a 25-16, 16-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-8 five-set victory in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan, the Filipina Spikers yielded to reigning Bronze medalist Thailand in straight sets, 22-25, 12-25, 15-25, at the GBK Volley Indoor.

Paat, the former Adamson star, finished with four points playing limited minutes in her first game wearing the national team jersey.

But Padda believes that Paat can do more if she will be given a chance to play longer.

“No (we haven’t talk) and I wish I was because I will give her the best pep talk ever. But I believe in her so much and I hope whoever they play next, hopefully, the coach will give her another opportunity to play,” said Padda as the Philippines battles Japan on Tuesday.

Padda even recalled the first game of Paat’s final playing year in Adamson last UAAP Season 80 against National University, where she had a bad game that haunted her in their next games.

“It is her first time but one thing that I know about Mylene, we’ll go back to our UAAP game opener last year against NU she had the worst game ever. The absolute worst and she was really hard on herself. She gets really emotional and it kind of holds her back,” she shared.

The American coach believes that the Opposite/Middle Hitter have what it takes to be one of the top national team players as she only needs the right confidence and walk out of the shadows of fear.

“I hope what she does is she looks at the opportunity versus the fear that she might be feeling right now. The fear of not being ready, the fear of not having national team experience,” Padda said. “She can do this. She’s one of the Filipino players you have here who can compete in at a high level. Her height, her playing ability, her strengths.”

Being proud of her former player in donning the national colors, Padda encourages Paat to just continue living her dream without fear.

“I mean she can really compete with those girls just like Jaja (Santiago). They have an advantage,” she said. “So, I hope she can bawi. I hope she can remember how much she’s worked her ass off to get that spot and she doesn’t let the opportunity pass her up because she was scared.”
