SPORTS ministers from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) are in Manila to discuss plans for the joint bid of Asean members countries of the 2034 Fifa World Cup hosting, among other sports concerns in the region.
The Fifa bid was discussed in an earlier Asean Summit meeting in Bangkok where Thailand prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha declared that Southeast Asian nations are looking to host the event.
The meetings opened on Monday with the 9th Asean Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS-9), led by Philippine Sports Commission chairman William Ramirez and nine sports ministers. They meetings will be held until Thursday at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza.
Discussed during the SOMS-9 is the initial meeting for the creation of an e-sports federation in the region to which Malaysia will play host.
Ramirez will also lead the 5th Asean Ministerial Meetings on Sports (AMMS-5) on Tuesday.
Sar Sokha of Cambodia, Phouvanh Vongsouthi of Lao PDR, Tan Wei Ming of Singapore, Ahmad Shapawi Bin Ismail of Malaysia, Aminuddin Ihsan Pehn Dato HJ Abidin of Brunei-Darussalam, Mya Than Htike of Myanmar, Kumekawa Hirokazu of Japan, Le Thi Hoang Yen of Vietnam and Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn of Thailand lead their respective delegations in the meetings.
