A WEARY Philippine Army still proved too much for University of the Philippines, 25-18, 25-13, 25-17, on Tuesday in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Just a few hours after arriving in Manila from a tournament in Tuguegarao, the Lady Troopers suited up and started their V-League campaign on a bright note, sending the Lady Maroons to their second loss in as many matches.
Rachel Anne Daquis scored 14 points, Ging had 13 and Jovelyn Gonzaga added 10 as the Lady Troopers completed the win in 70 minutes.
“Medyo pagod pa ’yung mga bata kasi alas dose na kami ng madaling araw dumating kanina, kaya wala pang ensayo. Hindi naman namin pwedeng ipa-move dahil naka-schedule na (ang laro),” said Army coach Rico de Guzman.
The Lady Troopers, who placed second to Cagayan Valley on Sunday in the Cagayan Friendship Games, joined opening-day winners Ateneo and National University in the early lead.
Army registered more service aces (8-2) and had more excellent sets (15-9) against UP.
Kathy Bersola finished with 11 points from seven spikes, three blocks and one service ace for UP, which bowed to NU in four sets on Sunday.
