MARY Jean Balse and Rachel Anne Daquis showed the way as Army downed Philippine National Police, 25-13, 25-23, 25-22, in the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference quarterfinals on Sunday at The Arena in San Juan.
Balse and Daquis scored 15 points each points each, while Jovelyn Gonzaga, who has not yet fully recovered from a recent bout with the flu, contributed 11.
Army coach Rico de Guzman was pleased to see his wards come up with a straight-sets win after being dragged to four sets by winless Far Eastern University in its final eliminations match.
"Hindi naman sa pagmamayabang pero kasi kailangan straight sets lang kasi malaki ang paghahanda namin dito," he said.
"Practice na rin namin ito para sa mga susunod na kalaban lalo na sa Cagayan," added De Guzman.
Army now holds an 8-1 win loss card, its lone defeat coming against the Rising Suns.
Janine Marciano made 12 markers for PNP, while Frances Molina and Thai import Patcharee Sangmuang chipped in 10 points each for the Lady Patrolers, who now hold a 5-3 card.
