DARWIN, Australia – Ariel Lee Lampacan was given the Sportsmanship Award in the muay competitions of the 2019 Arafura Games.
National head coach Billy Alumno said Lampacan was handed the award at the close of the muay tournament Thursday.
Alumno said organizers didn’t state the reason for giving the plum to the Filipino fighter but Lampacan was seen carrying his opponent Sakchai Chamchit of Thailand and giving him a victory ride after he lost in his gold medal match in the men’s elite A 54 kilograms.
Chamchit was also named Best Fighter of the competition during the awards regularly held at the end of each muay tournament.
