No excuses as Alyssa Valdez all praises for UST: 'Sobrang inspired, sobrang fluid nila'

    Sep 13, 2015

ATENEO'S stunning loss to University of Santo Tomas in the semifinals of the Shakey’s V-League Season 12 Collegiate Conference was a learning experience and a wake-up call, said Lady Eagles star Alyssa Valdez.

The Lady Eagles’ 10-game winning run was halted by the Tigresses, who with the 25-18, 16-25, 23-25, 22-25 victory on Sunday at The Arena forced a rubber match for the last berth in the finals.

“It’s really a wakeup call and a learning experience for the team,” said Valdez, whose team-high 24 points went for naught as the Tigresses weathered a brave Lady Eagles fightback.

Game Three is set on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

“We are really hoping for the best on Wednesday, all out na but win or lose it’s the learning that we can get here that is important,” said the 22-year old pride of San Juan, Batangas.

Valdez had the chance to save the day after her four consecutive points pushed Ateneo within 22-24 in the fourth set, but Mela Tunay slammed the door on the Lady Eagles with the game-clinching point.

The UAAP back-to-back MVP admitted the Tigresses were better on this day.

“They played really well and inspired,” said Valdez. “They really worked hard as a team, sa lahat ng aspect nag work talaga sila, sobrang fluid nila.”

“Sa amin naman may times na off kami hindi namin kontrolado ‘yun,” she said.

Despite the loss, the charming volleybelle kept her head up as she shifted her focus to do-or-die Game Three.

“Stay positive lang,” she said with a smile.
