ALYSSA Valdez has finally broken her silence, saying suiting up in the Philippine Super Liga by the time she is through with her playing years in college is possible.
“Kung saan ‘yung opportunity na ibibigay, ‘di ba?” Valdez said when asked about reports that several teams in the PSL are willing to spend millions just to get the services of the most popular volleyball player in the country today.
“Kung ano ‘yung opportunity na ibibigay sa atin, we just have to make good decisions, good decisions.”
Valdez is set to play in her final year with Ateneo this season, and this early, a lot of teams in the PSL are already awaiting her draft eligibility.
But Valdez said she’s not in a hurry to make a decision yet.
“Let’s see, let’s see what’s gonna happen, we can’t control everything naman, ‘di ba?" the back-to-back UAAP MVP, who is taking up Psychology for her undergraduate degree, said while bringing up other career options.
"And ano rin magamit ko rin ‘yung tinapos ko sa Ateneo para maganda may iba pang mga Plan B, Plan C,” she added.
The 22-year old volleybelle, however, sounded flattered by the reported offers, saying it speaks of the stature players have reached with the continued growth of volleyball's popularity.
“Grabe naman wow, wow. Ano ba, I’m really thankful and blessed na ganoon ang respect not only sa akin but sa ibang volleyball players,” she said.
“Ngayon ganoon na ‘yung respect na binibigay ng companies para lang magkaroon sila ng isang magandang team rin so it’s all for the volleyball community. It’s not only for me, at least gumaganda na rin. I mean, nagkakaron na rin tayo ng after college (leagues),” she added.
Playing volleyball since elementary, Valdez is certainly glad that after she graduates in college, there are commercial league where she can play for.
“Kung volleyball player ka, hindi ka ‘yung after 10 years saan na mapupunta ‘yung pinaghirapan mo, ‘di ba? So ayun, it’s good for the sport,” she said.
