PHILIPPINE Air Force bolstered its quarterfinals bid as it pulled off a three-set win over Smart, 25-22, 25-18, 25-17, in the Shakey’s V-League Season 10 Open Conference on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Former University of Santo Tomas stalwarts Maika Ortiz and Judy Ann Caballejo took charge for the Air Women with 16 and 12 points, respectively, while Joy Cases added 10.
The Air Women toughened up on defense as they had 10 blocks against the four of Smart in notching their second win in four games.
Team captain Rubie de Leon led the Net Spikers with nine points, while young gun Gretchel Soltones and veteran Mica Guliman contributed with eight points apiece.
Smart played minus Maru Banaticla, who missed the game due to her commitment to UST in the UAAP beach volleyball which starts Saturday.
The Net Spikers suffered their second straight loss after winning their first three games of the tournament.
