All set for Philippine Sports Commission Visayas Open in Cebu City

THE first leg of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Visayas Open will be held this weekend in Cebu City.

The competition has 15 sports — are boxing, karatedo, taekwondo, arnis, judo, table tennis, tennis, badminton, archery, air rifle, weightlifting, triathlon, open water swimming, marathon and swimming.

PSC commissioner Ramon Fernandez said the event will be a quarterly affair this year as the PSC searches for potential athletes in the Visayas region. A similar type of competition is being planned for Luzon and Mindanao with a culminating event to be called LuVMO (Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao Open).

The PSC is also laying the groundwork for Cebu’s hosting of the Philippine National Games from May 19 to 25 with Cebu City, Cebu Province, Naga City, Tabuelan, Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City and Mandaue City hosting events.

The PNG is a 16-and-above competition in 21 sports.
