Osmena, Fernandez seal deal making Cebu next host of National Games
Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmena and PSC commissioner Mon Fernandez seal the deal making Cebu the host of the next Philippine National Games.

PHILIPPINE Sports Commission (PSC) commissioner Ramon Fernandez and Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña has officially sealed Cebu's hosting of the 2018 Philippine National Games on Thursday with the signing of a memorandum of agreement.

Fernandez, who oversees the Visayas region for the PSC, shared his excitement over the staging of the Games in the queen city of the south.

“Everything is set. We consider the PNG as the country's Olympics, that is why we are excited that we get to do it here in Cebu,” said the former PBA star.

Osmeña echoed Fernandez's words, saying, “it has been 21 years since Cebu hosted the PNG in 1997, so this is a big moment not just for Cebu City but also Cebu Province.”

The PNG will be co-hosted by the Province of Cebu and Cebu City from May 19 to 25 with 21 sporting events on tap including athletics, boxing, chess, dancesport, and swimming.

It will also showcase 12 playing venues around Naga City, Tabuelan, Danao City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City.

An initial coordination meeting was done between Cebu sports coordinators and committee representatives from the PSC last April 3.
