PRESIDENT Aquino has been invited to attend the send-off for Filipino athletes in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea to be held on Friday at the Philsports Arena.

Philippine Olympic Committee first vice president Joey Romasanta said arrangements have been made for Aquino to attend the event before the athletes leave for Incheon to compete against the finest in Asia.

Aquino, nephew of POC president Jose ‘Peping’ Cojuangco has yet to attend any similar function related to sports since he took office in 2010, with vice president Jejomar Binay usually attending in his place.

“Nothing is official yet as to his presence but the staff has been coordinating with the local Asian Games Task Force for the arrangements like security,” said Romasanta.

The event is scheduled late in the afternoon starting with a First Friday Mass before a short program will be held with Cojuangco and Philippine Sports Commission chairman Ritchie Garcia expected to rally behind the Filipino athletes before they leave for Incheon.

Around 150 athletes will compete for the Philippines in the Asian Games.
