INCHEON, Korea - Relatives of veterans who fought in the Korean War came in droves to support the campaign of the Philippine team here in the 17th Asian Games.

Hundreds of South Koreans were on hand to watch the Philippine Blu Girls play in their first two games in the softball competitions.

The support was specifically to return the favor after Filipino Armymen, known as the Philippine Expeditionary Forces in Korea (Peftok), fought in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953.

A few of them held signs bearing the words ‘Thank you for your help during the Korean war’ in the stands.

“The Philippines, Thailand, and India helped them out during the Korean war. They are showing their appreciation in these games,” said PSC commissioner Jolly Gomez.

Gomez said the descendants of Korean war veterans will also watch games of cricket, rugby, and sepak takraw where India and Thailand also have entries.
