Jessel Lumapas repeats as 400m girls champ, sets new Palarong Pambansa record
Jessel Lumapas, winner in Antique last year, again rules the 400-m and puts her name on the record books. 

BANTAY, Ilocos Sur — Jessel Lumapas captured her second gold medal in the 2018 Palarong Pambansa, setting a new record in the girls’ secondary level 400-meter run on Thursday at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium.

The 17-year-old Lumapas crossed the finish line at 56.28 seconds, breaking the 57.33 mark of Jenny Rose Rosales of Calabarzon in 2011.

The Dasmarinas City native was fresh from a gold-medal win in the 100m run on Wednesday.

Eliza Cuyom of Calabarzon clocked 14.50 seconds to break the 1996 Palaro record in the 100m hurdles set by Michelle Patasaha (14.9).

Kent Brian Celeste of National Capital Region ruled the secondary boys’ high jump, registering 1.99 meters to break the old mark of Alexis Soqueno of Western Visayas in 2015.

In the secondary boys, Kenneth Corpuz of Soccsksargen took the gold in the 400m run, with 100-m winner Veruel Verdadero of Calabarzon settling for the bronze medal.

John Wayne Pe Benito of Cagayan Valley claimed the secondary boys 110m hurdles gold with a time of 15.14 seconds, just 0.02 seconds over Mart Dave Rico of Mimaropa.
