SAN JUAN, Ilocos Sur — Davao Region pulled off a big upset over Central Luzon, 94-93, on Thursday at the San Juan Covered Court to clinch a semifinal berth in the 2018 Palarong Pambansa secondary boys basketball tournament.

Aljay Alloso hit a corner jumper with 10 seconds left in the fourth, which turned out to be the game-winner for Davao Region, whose core is composed of players from Holy Child School of Davao.

The Davao Eagles also had players from Ateneo de Davao, St. Mary’s College of Tagum, and Cor Jesu College in Digos.

“Sa totoo lang, upset. Sabi ko sa mga bata, wag tayo mag-give up. Anyway, win or lose, underdog naman tayo. Parang na-motivate sila dun. Never mind the score sabi ko. Let’s just play. Naging effective,” said Davao coach Nestor Sorrosa.

Ron Jabez Canlas buried a triple with 25 seconds left to give Central Luzon the upper hand, 93-92, before Escalera’s heroics

Vince Cuajao had 31 points for Davao Region, which will face the winner of the Northern Mindanao-Western Visayas quarterfinal match.
