A QUALIFYING tournament for athletes in five sports will be held next week to identify the athletes that will join Team Philippines in the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.

The qualifiers for belt wrestling, kickboxing, kurash, sambo and traditional wrestling, dubbed Philippine Pre-Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, will be held at Harrison Plaza in Manila from May 29 to June 2.

The qualifying events are being organized because the five sports do not have national sports associations (NSAs) to supervise the selection of athletes.

“Ang tournament ay para sa five sports na wala pang NSA. Opportunity din ito to showcase ‘yung mga bagong sports na paglalabanan sa AIMAG,” said Deputy chief of mission Raymund Lee Reyes.

The Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games will be held in Turkmenistan from September 17 to 27.

The pre-AIMAG tournament is open to amateur and professional athletes aged 18 and above. Athletes may email their intention to join through preaimag2017@gmail.com.
