UFC contender Mark Muñoz shows how to throw a mean uppercut

    Oct 23, 2013

WE asked UFC middleweight contender Mark 'The Filipino Wrecking Machine' Muñoz to share what it takes for you to deliver a KO worthy punch. “It’s not about the arms. You gotta throw your whole body into it,” Muñoz says. With each punch, your whole body must work like a chain in order to generate some mean power. “First, it starts from your feet, your legs, you turn your hips, your core, then your shoulders to finish it off.”

As an MMA fighter, Muñoz has an arsenal of punches to throw at his opponent, and each varies in execution. We asked him about arguably the deadliest: the uppercut. “You can throw it in a lot of different ways, when someone comes in with an overhand right you can block it and throw an uppercut. You can set it up with a jab and you can definitely do it in from the Muay Thai clinch,” he says. One thing remains constant despite all the ways of punching. “You gotta throw your hips, your shoulders, and your core into the uppercut to produce a lot of torque and power.”
