MICHELIN just reached another milestone after it was named the official tire partner of the new FIA Formula E for the 2013 to 2015 seasons.
The reliable French brand was chosen following a thorough selection process conducted by the FIA (Federation International de Automobile). The motorsport’s governing body cited Michelin’s savoir-faire in three different areas – technical expertise, marketing plan, and involvement in mobility promotion programs.
Michael Nunag, Michelin Philippines chief representative, officially made the announcement during a special press launch recently.
Formula E is a new FIA Championship featuring formula cars powered exclusively by electric energy. It represents a vision for the future of the motor industry over the coming decades.
Demonstration runs of the Formula E cars start in 2013, followed by the Championship in 2014 with 10 teams and drivers competing, with races to be staged in main landmarks of the world’s leading cities.
Michelin Group’s motorsport department director Pascal Couasnon emphasized how pleased and proud the French tire manufacturer for being selected to be part of the new FIA Formula E Championship.
“When it comes to energy and efficient tires and responsible motorsport, Michelin has emerged as a pioneer. This new race series is valued by Michelin through the facts that it introduces a new form of power and it will bring the sport to city centers," said Couasnon.
