LANDO Norris finally has a victory to show in his Formula 1 title defense.
The reigning world champion converted his first pole position into his first win of the 2026 season on Sunday, overcoming an early setback and surviving a dramatic closing stretch to rule the Hungarian Grand Prix, the final race before the month-long summer break.

The win came just days after McLaren rolled out a major upgrade package at the Hungaroring, featuring a redesigned floor, revised aerodynamic bodywork and a trial of its innovative rear wing concept.
The changes immediately paid dividends as Norris delivered the reigning back-to-back Constructors' champions their long-awaited first victory of the season.
It was also a personal milestone for Norris at the Hungaroring, making it the first circuit where he has won multiple Grands Prix in his career after backing up last year's breakthrough triumph in Budapest with another strong drive.
He also became the first pole-sitter to convert pole into victory in Budapest in five years.
"My pace today was probably some of the best pace I’ve ever had. The car was beautiful to drive and I felt very confident, so a great race," said Norris.
"I’m just happy to be back and see the number one again.”
Grand Budapest drama
Norris looked headed for a lights-to-flag win after qualifying on pole, only for his teammate Oscar Piastri to launch a brilliant getaway and snatch the lead into Turn 1.
The Australian appeared poised to hand McLaren its breakthrough win until his race unraveled.
Piastri first lost time after tangling with backmarker Carlos Sainz while attempting to lap the Williams before suffering a gearbox failure that forced him to retire with 14 laps remaining, triggering a Virtual Safety Car (VSC).
By then, however, Norris had already reclaimed the lead through the pit cycle and comfortably managed the closing laps to finally open his account for the season.
The late VSC at Lap 56 presented one final strategic twist, but Max Verstappen and championship leader Kimi Antonelli opted against making another stop, choosing instead to preserve track position after having recently pitted. The decision secured second place for Verstappen and third for Antonelli.
Lewis Hamilton initially crossed the finish line fourth but was handed a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane on Lap 47, promoting Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc to fourth.
Hamilton slipped to fifth ahead of Isack Hadjar, while George Russell recovered from an anti-stall issue at the start that dropped him to the back of the field to finish seventh.
Liam Lawson added four more points for Racing Bulls in eighth, Nico Hulkenberg brought home ninth for Audi and rookie Arvid Lindblad rounded out the top 10.
Norris now cuts into Antonelli's championship lead entering the second half of the season, though the Mercedes youngster remains comfortably on top of the Drivers' Championship with 219 points.
Hamilton sits second with 169, followed by Russell (160), Leclerc (138), Norris (128), Verstappen (109 and a luckless Piastri (92).
Mercedes likewise heads into the break atop the Constructors' Championship with 379 points, maintaining its advantage over Ferrari (307), while McLaren's breakthrough victory lifted the reigning back-to-back champions to 220 points in third.
