JOHN Boban edged six-time Lateral Drift Champion Alex Perez for the pro division title in the first round of the Hyundai Lateral Drift Championship recently at Mega Tent in Libis.
Boban, aboard a 550-horsepower Toyota Soarer, came out on top of the 30-car field in the event that also doubled as the opener of the 9th season of the Lateral Drift series.
Last year champion Gio Rodringuez settled for third place, beating last year’s Rookie and Amateur champion Mark Bernardo of Concept One.
This year’s series has Japan’s Kimihiro Obata and Hiromi Kajikuma and former Lateral Drift competitor Jason Choachuy as judges.
In the Amateur division, newcomer Peter Schroth won over Karr Montaner of Team GMW, with Stephen Ng in third.
Round Two is set on Saturday also at Libis Mega Tent.
