FILIPINO ace riders BJ Ang and Excel Torres grabbed the spotlight after emerging the top winners in their respective classes during the SBMA Jet Ski Invitational Race 2013 at the Waterfront Beach of the Subic Bay Freeport.
Ang, a veteran internationalist and the lone Filipino invited to compete in the 2013 Asian Motorboat Liuzhou Open in China, showed his superb riding skills on board his fast stock 2011 Sea Doo en route to capturing the Expert Runabout Open crown by a wide margin.
Pong Lee, who gave Ang a challenge throughout the race, bagged runner-up honors, followed by Excel Torres in third. Abby Reyes and Darryl Garbes finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Torres, on the other hand, survived the challenge of a tough and talented field of champion riders to prevail in the Expert Runabout 4-Strokes event.
Torres only finished fourth in the Final Moto, but his huge win in the First Moto gave him enough cushion to clinch the crown by just a point over Reyes and Myk Mangio.
The event was organized by the Jet Sports Association of the Philippines (JSAP) under new president Harley David and race director Joey Millionado, and supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), SBMA chairman Bobby Garcia, Networx Jetsports, Irma Fishing, R33 Car Exchange, and the Philippine National Red Cross.
Paul del Rosario, the country’s No. 1 rider, showed the form and experience that made him the 2010 World Jet Ski Expert Runabout Open champion as he ruled the Open Ski class competition over top female riders Jam Mangio and Abby Reyes.
Both Reyes and Mangio ended up with identical 42 points, but Reyes earned outright runner-up honor as Mangio settled for third.
Ang took fourth place, while Lee and Ko finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
The event was graced by the Iloilo Watercraft Association headed by Vincent Tajanlangit and Australian Jet Ski Association vice-president Dan Fox.
Fox joined the fun with the Filipino riders and copped the Novice 4-Strokes title over Iloilo bet Noy Mercado and Raymond Ronquillo.
