Are tickets to first UFC fights in Manila priced fairly? Let's do quick comparison

    Mar 10, 2015

WITNESSING world-class mixed martial arts action live certainly comes at a price.

But unlike tickets for the NBA preseason game between the Indiana Pacers and the Houston Rockets in 2013, prices of tickets for the maiden Manila offering of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) ranging from P1,590 to P13,250 may be considerably within reach of MMA fans.

Tickets to UFC: Fight Night Manila on May 16 at the Mall of Asia Arena headlined by Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber as well as top Filipino fighters cost as follows: P13,250 (VIP), P10,600 (Patron), P7,950 (Lower Box A), P5,830 (Lower Box B), P3,710 (Upper Box), P1,590 (General Admission).

Although certainly not cheap, the prices are still way lower than those for the 2013 NBA preseason game also hosted by the MOA Arena where the best seats - the so-called 'Jack Nicholson seats' - went for over P50,000.

Comparing the two events' price range, the P13,250 price tag for the VIP tickets for UFC Fight Night will only get you as close to the action as the upper box section during the Rockets-Pacers game.

In fact, the high price of tickets was blamed when only 12,885 fans came to the watch the Rockets-Pacers game live - well below the capacity of the MOA Arena.

However, tickets for general admission seats are lower for the NBA game (P550) are lower compared to those in the historic UFC fight card (P1,590).

Some people may argue that basketball is a much more popular sport and the NBA definitely has a wider fan base, but the UFC is at the forefront of the growing popularity of MMA and its fight cards all over the world never fail to draw jampacked crowds.

We'll get a better idea when the sale begins on Friday, with tickets available at the MOA Arena Box Office, all SM Tickets outlets in all SM Cinema branches nationwide, and online via www.smtickets.com. Fans can call the mall’s customer care hotline at (02)470-2222 for more information.

SM Lifestyle Entertainment president Edgar Tejerero said he expects a sizeable crowd with the countless inquires he has been getting since last month.
