JON Jones kept busy five months into his one-year doping ban after winning via tap out due to an arm-triangle choke on the recently retired UFC legend Dan Henderson at the 6:39 mark of their grappling match in the Submission Underground 2 event at Roseland Theater in Portland on Sunday (Monday, Manila time).

The submission-only contest between Jones, who is suspended from the UFC until at least July next year after a positive drug test before his fight against lightheavyweight champ Daniel Cormier, and Henderson was the main event of the card held under the Eddie Bravo Invitational rules and streamed on FloGrappling.com, and promoted by former UFC contender Chael Sonnen.

The Jones-Henderson match finally took place after their face-off at UFC 151 in 2012 was scrapped due to an injury Henderson suffered during training. Four years later, Jones and Henderson finally met inside the cage, even if it only involved grappling.

Enjoying a 31-pound weight advantage, Jones put his size to good use in dominating most of the match and fending off the 46-year-old Henderson’s armbar attempt just before the midway point of the fight. The former UFC lightheavyweight champ kept busy on top, passing Henderson’s guard and eventually locked in an arm-triangle choke that forced the future Hall of Famer to tap with more than a minute left in regulation.

Jones went on to laud his opponent after the match, calling Henderson ‘one of the greatest of all time’ in the sport of MMA. He also thanked Sonnen for the opportunity but after the fighter-turned-promoter asked him to return on January 29 for Submission Underground 3, Jones had a quick reply on who he wants to face next.

“I’m thinking me and you, Chael, should do a little something, something,” said Jones.

“In that case, I will see you January 29,” Sonnen answered back.
