FILIPINO mixed martial arts fans will have to wait a while longer for the return of Mark Striegl to the Pacific X-Treme Combat as his featherweight fight with Yusuke Yachi in PXC 37 on May 18 has been shelved.

Both featherweight contenders have curiously sustained separate minor injuries in training, delaying a bout that would’ve dangled a shot at the title recently surrendered by Joe Taimanglo.

The Jang Yong Kim-Nate Thorell featherweight eliminator bout that stakes the other place in the title fight, though, is expected to push through.

The 24-year-old Filipino-American Striegl, one of the top MMA practitioners in the country today with an unbeaten 12-fight streak, would’ve been the favorite to emerge victorious against Yachi, a Japanese fighter who is also unbeaten in his last five fights.

“It is very unfortunate. These injuries are definitely unexpected, but it happens in this game. We wish both men speedy recoveries,” PXC CEO EJ Calvo said, assuring fans the 37th edition will remain as action-packed even without the anticipated featherweight bout.

The rest of the fights lined up are as follows: lightweight division: Wesley Machado (3-0) vs Syafiq Abdul Samad (1-0), flyweight division: Jerome Wanawan (3-1) vs Ernesto Montilla, Jr. (1-1), and featherweight division: Arex Montalban (2-0) vs Rolando Dy (2-2).
