SINGAPORE — One Championship lightweight titleholder Shinya Aoki is oozing confidence ahead of his One FC title defense, saying he will “enjoy” the bout while Filipino fighter Eduard Folayang will be “scared than ever before.”
The Japanese champion, considered one of the top lightweights in MMA, is unbeaten since 2012 including five appearances on One and is a huge favorite in their showdown in One: Defending Honor on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“He (Folayang) is also scared going to the fight. Scared than ever before,” said Aoki through an interpreter.
“There is nothing to talk about him. I’m just going to enjoy the fight against him,” Aoki said.
“I’m just thinking that Eduard is improving in all aspects in MMA. I’m just looking forward to the fight,” said Aoki, who has also been practicing his muay techniques to help counter the wushu background of Folayang.
“I’m well-prepared,” said the fighter who once fought at Bellator.
A professional fighter for almost a decade and a half, Aoki has scored 39 wins and absorbed six losses with one no-contest.
Folayang, meanwhile, is entering his biggest title-fight in the mixed martial arts organization.
He has fought twice this year in One, winning both by unanimous decision over Tetsuya Yamada and Adrian Pang.
