SETH Rollins won the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) heavyweight title at Wrestlemania 31 that featured the appearance of unbeaten UFC champion Ronda Rousey in the annual spectacle held at Levi’s Stadium in Sta. Clara, California.
Rollins emerged as the new heavyweight champion by cashing in on the ‘Money in the Bank’ contract, a privilege given to a wrestler to fight for the world title at any time.
He pinned Roman Reigns to claim the WWE title for the first time.
Reigns was battling erstwhile champion Brock Lesnar in a bloody match of the main event when Rollins decided to run down to the ring and cash in on the ‘Money in the Bank’ contract, setting the stage for a triple threat match.
It was Rousey, however, who stole the show by appearing in the event along with WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
'The Rock' and Rousey attacked Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, leaders of the faction called ‘The Authority’ while Triple H was addressing the crowd of more than 76,000 at the center of the ring.
The crowd went wild when Rousey took out Triple H, winner over Sting earlier, with a judo toss before putting an arm lock on McMahon.
In other results, John Cena defeated Rusev to claim the WWE United States title, while Daniel Bryan ruled the seven-man ladder match to win the WWE Intercontinental crown.
Triple H defeated Sting in a match that saw the appearance of Degeneration X (DX) and the New World Order (NWO), top factions of the WWE and the defunct World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in the 1990s, respectively.
Randy Orton beat Rollins, while AJ Lee and Paige whipped The Bella Twins in a women’s tag team match.
In pre-Wrestlemania 31 matches, The Big Show won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale as Tyson Kid and Cesaro retained the WWE Tag Team titles in a fatal four-way match.
